Reefton man checking his Lotto ticket thought he'd made a mistake and only realised he'd won $10.6 million after second check later in the day.
The South Island family which won the $10.6 million Big Wednesday prize is taking it one step at a time.
A family spokesman says they want the money to last for their children and grandchildren.
The husband discovered the windfall when checking his ticket on Thursday, but couldn't believe it and thought he'd made a mistake.
Later in the day when he heard the winning ticket had been sold in Reefton, he took a second look.
When he went home and told his wife, she didn't believe it either and had to check the numbers for herself.
