To figure out if your problems are really caused by a faulting C.D.I. unit and which unit faulted, have a look at the tachometer: If it doesn't work, the problem is with the left unit. If the tachometer works, change the units from left to right and v.v. and watch the tachometer. If it doesn't work, you will know now what the problem is. If it does, something else happened.
